The Vulture Trail is one of three nature trails in the municipality of Oviedo, along with the Salamander and Bear trails. Its name comes from the frequent presence of griffon vultures, scavenger birds that soar over the route's mountains.

Practical Information

Duration: 2.5 hours | Elevation gain: 300 m | Recommended season: All year round. The route features varied landscapes including chestnuts, birches, oaks and hazelnuts, and a rich natural environment with wildlife like foxes, wild boars and birds.

Transport: Accessible by public transport (line 3) with an additional 3.5 km walk. At the end, you can enjoy local cuisine at nearby restaurants.

Recommendations

This route is ideal for enjoying tranquility, fresh air, and the biodiversity of Asturian forests. It can be completed in under two hours. Although guided tours are available, anyone can explore it independently.

Salamander Trail

Biodiversity in its purest form

The trail starts at La Arquera, in the parish of Puerto, and ends in Caces. It is easily accessible thanks to TUA line 3, which drops you just 50 meters from the start.

Flora and Fauna

From the very beginning, a rich biodiversity can be seen: Egyptian vultures, falcons, herons, blackbirds, foxes, deer, wild boars and the salamander that gives the trail its name. Vegetation includes scrub, oaks, chestnuts, hazelnuts and holm oaks in limestone areas.
