Spring (April–June):
Pleasant temperatures (12–20°C), green landscapes and less rain than in winter. Ideal for cultural tourism and exploring the municipality.

Summer (July–August):
Peak cultural activity. Warm but not extreme temperatures (22°C average).

Autumn (September–November):
San Mateo Festival, Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony. Variable weather, but with many very pleasant days.

Winter (December–March):
A charming Christmas atmosphere and fewer tourists. Cool but moderate weather, ideal for enjoying Asturian cuisine.

Transport and access

Oviedo has excellent transport links with the rest of Spain:

By air:
Asturias Airport (OVD) is 40 km away, with domestic and international flights. The city centre can be reached by ALSA bus or taxi (around 30 minutes).

By train:
Oviedo railway station offers connections to:

  • Madrid (Renfe Alvia, 4h 30min)
  • Barcelona (Renfe Alvia, 7h 30min)
  • Bilbao, Santander and other cities in northern Spain
  • FEVE regional rail services

By road:

  • A-66 motorway (Ruta de la Plata) from León and southern Spain
  • A-8 motorway (Autovía del Cantábrico) from eastern and western Spain
